Why?! Well because our tartan pencil skirt is an absolute beaut of course! Yesterdays blog Tartan Fashion Leads the Way for Winter got us all talking about our favourite tartan items, which other trends we can work them into, and how exactly we will wear them, from the office to a party or from shopping to dinner. Writer @IKRUSH_Mandy was excited just to even write the blog. Apparently we’re an excitable lot.
We’re not just talking 70’s punk rocker revival here. No the tartan trend isn’t just a remake of what has all ready been done. It’s more of a nod to the past with some new twists kicking in. The best bit about the tartan trend is that it can tie in with looooads of other stuff too, especially if your using our tartan pencil skirt.
Here are some of our other favorite latest fashion trends from the AW 2013 catwalk that we are dying to try our tartan pencil skirt out with…
A little bit of ladylike chic is pretty much one of the easiest ways to get ticking off the trends list and working tartan into this ticks yet another box- the masculine fabrics box. See, getting along quickly here. At Jonathan Saunders a Pink and stripy coat was given the lady like edge with a neat nipped in waist. Our pencil skirt will do this well we think! We also loved the Jonathan Saunders catwalk show. The cobbled streets added to a vintage vibe, how retro… Check it out and spot some more lady like fashion trends.
A more casual approach was taken at Rochas with a loose knit chunky cardigan contrasting but complementing the 50’s style a-line skirt. We love the china blue and white pattern, which looks even more delicate against such a relaxed fabric on the cardigan. What other skirt shape is reminiscent of the past I here you ask? Well the pencil skirt of course! We wouldn’t be writing this post otherwise, would we? The nipped in waist features again here, we will have to experiment with some big meets tiny shapes in our styling tips it seems.
Having a bit of a double up on patterns was also a bit of biggie for the latest fashion trends. Whether it be in suits (masculine or womens power) or twin set knitwear (not as lame as it sounds) matching your patterns was almost as big as, well, the patterns themselves. We love the white floral prints at A monogrammed leather piece, especially as a ladylike chic suit. The delicate pattern works well as a two piece as it isn’t overwhelming. The beauty and hair here is also pretty envy worthy. Grr gimmie that skin girl!
A -errmmm fluffier?- approach to the matching suit was seen at Erdem. The knitwear designer worked in purple, one of the biggest trend colours this season with a simple shaped short sleeved top and the ‘new skirt’ shape for AW 2013. Ladylike chic? We think we have got it…
Tartan Pencil Skirt- How We Are Wearing It.
So we have all the key notes for how we are going to fit tartan into some of the other latest fashion trends and now all we need to do, is show you how our tartan pencil skirt will get us there.
Our first outfit ticks two boxes with a nipped in waist and double pattern combo. The tartan pencil skirt looks great with a matching cut out peplum top. The gold detailing on the tartan peplum top is the same as the detailing on the skirt, so you won’t loose out just because your covering your waistband! We love our block heel shoes in a strappy style. Not only are they easy to walk in, but also right up there with the latest fashion trends. Try an oversized shopper bag for some practical style. Perfect for fitting your laptop into, as this outfit is a perfect office look.
We know the preppy thing is big right now but we also get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. That’s why we recommend teaming out tartan peplum skirt with a casual tank top with a slik like fabric for a great day look. Wear it in a larger sized to play with shapes and emphasize your waist. Flinging in a hint of punk style (just a hint, we couldn’t resist!) will give a cool contrast to the lady like look. A biker jacket and cut out shoe boot will give you an overall outfit that works from a day out with the girls to a night out for dinner or a hot date.
Another great look for the day is teaming a nice shirt with the tartan peplum skirt but keeping it casual with a wet look sleeve bomber jacket. Chelsea boots are a great essential for this winter (cut outs may be on trend but these won’t let the rain in!) and our version are both comfy and stylish. This outfit again plays with sizes and shapes without loosing your waistline. It’s both feminine and casual, a great way to work the latest trends with out seeming over the top.
For look number four we thought bringing you an amazing option for a night out would be a great finale! It’s peplum again here but this time the bling is in the neckline with some geometric fashion jewelry. Our black peplum top won’t fail to impress and nips you right in at the waist and back out at the hip. Curves a la 1960’s siren, oh la la indeed! Contrasting the black block colour with our tartan peplum skirt looks amazing and will help you to stand out and stay classy. We love our chain bag which is a great size and ties in with the detailing on the peplum top. We loved our cut out shoe boot so much we just had to feature them again. These boots are great for trying the ultra feminine lady like trend without having to hide away your edgier side.
