Gothic Transition

Gothic Saves The Season.

So, it’s that awkward time of year where the Autumn Winter trends are wearing thin but your not quite ready for the full force of spring summer. Luckily for you, one SS14 trend has all things Gothic at it’s heart. We all know what gothic means right? It means dark, brooding colours, leather and spikes. All things that you can wear before the sun comes out. Go Gothic!

Gothic From The Designers.

So, where did this love of all things gothic come from? It, of course, came from the catwalks! Black is a great place to start when it comes to the gothic look but this seasons take is much more about the textures, layers and shapes that go with it. This look seems simple, apart from the mask, but when you take a closer look you can see that the cut of the neckline creates interesting shapes when against the skin. With cut outs, a lower layer and peg leg trousers there is a lot more to this Gothic look than the traditional connotations. Cedric Charlier took a similar approach but in a very different way. Using leatherette with lot’s of different shaped layers and strong angles creates a powerful aesthetic. We love how the look still looks edgy despite the sandals! Beach ready. Ish… Both these looks are great for evening wear but when it comes to something a bit more relaxed we loved Piece D’Anarchive. This loose fit style looked great with some amazing accessories. With the Gothic trend you can really make it your own when choosing all the little details. We also loved the introduction of white to break up the look.   Another slightly casual vibe (if a bit outlandish) was seen at Mark Fast. Making the Gothic trend a bit more punk with wild hair, cut outs and some doc martin look shoes, Fast created a look that is much more for the quirkier girls. Contrasting this was the long line leather gloves, giving an overall interesting aesthetic.

How To Wear The Gothic Trend.

So, we though we would give you a little guide to the top picks for working the Gothic trend. Let’s take a look at what you can wear for more of a party vibe first… One obvious thing you need when getting ready for a night out is high heels. These faux suede spike platform heels  is our favourite footwear to tie in with the Gothic trend, no matter what your outfit. Another option is to work the trend with one simple statement piece. This baroque collard shift dress is the perfect choice for mixing gothic with glamour. We think that, by introducing another colour you can create a more interesting look without needing to buy all those layers. If it is the layers side you prefer with the Gothic trend though, you can add this lace waterfall cardigan to practically any outfit for a vampish Gothic style. The waterfall front adds to the trend by creating an unusual shape. When it comes to unusual shapes, we though that this wet look mini skort was the perfect way to work the Gothic trend on a night out if you’re not a fan of wearing dresses. It’s ticks all the boxes, unusual shape, layers, leather look and of course- black. Don’t worry though. This trend isn’t just for a night out but can be a great day look too. As mentioned before, accessories can play a big part here. This is why we chose this black bowler hat and some block heel gold plate boots to help you on your way to working this trend. Stolen from the styling at Piece D’Anarchive of course. You can’t beat teaming gothic with grunge either and the chunky cable knit jumper  is a great way to get this look when teamed with your fav black jeans. If you fancy something sleeker why not swap it for our wet look oversized top , our fav for casual wet look style.   So, that’s our take on the Gothic trend. We think it's the best way to get ready for Spring Summer trends without having to freeze!   By Mhairi O’Neill @IKRUSH_Mhairi
