Vintage Style- In a Cinematic Fashion

Vintage Style- The Latest From the Past.

One great thing about this seasons latest trends is that vintage style has moved into the limelight on the catwalks. We loved the AW 2013 shows that sported great vintage style and a strong retro vibe. Every girl has some vintage dresses (or would like to) hidden away somewhere, dying to be aloud out more. Today we take a look at some vintage style designer highlights, how to wear your hair to rock the look and a blast from the past make-up guide. It's time to give your clothes a trip in time.

Vintage Style- Catwalk Trend Highlights.

A touch of fur (faux... We hope) helped to add expense to some great vintage style catwalk looks. At Lanvin (Above Right) a glamorous wrap scarf in rich pile white fur gave a softer side to a 50’s style power suit. We love how it clings to the arm, acting almost like a sleeve to give this look a modern twist. A monogrammed canvas collection (Above Left) kept the modern to the hair and make-up only with a rock chick beauty contrasting ultra feminine styling. This outfit screamed 50’s housewife. The combination of fabrics gave interesting texture with a soft cropped cashmere sweater over a silk skirt teamed with a super fluffy bag. For some further tips on the fur trend that's been seen on the AW 2013 catwalks have a read of our post- Fluffy Fur Coat Fun!    Film Noir vintage style was seen at Christian Doir (Above Left) and a minimalist Parisian label (Above Left) with monochrome palettes and strong angular shapes. An all white approach featured a reminiscent 50's silhouette with an off the shoulder structured neckline. This seasons skirt shape flared slightly at the knee looked great with boots and a matching slouchy bag. More of a 60's meets 40's vibe with nipped waists and full skirts. The black and white scheme reminds us of 60’s mod whereas the tailored jacket had a post war vibe. Oh so cinematic.   Going bold in red gives and amazing retro vibe. We loved the woven leather accessories and butter soft suede separates. (Above Left) with oversized structured shoulders and a nipped in at the waist vintage style. Again this seasons signature skirt showed up, this time with a sharp shape at the hemline. A preppy meets scarlet diva look at Nina Ricci (Above Left) was created using bright bold red with schoolgirl styling. The cardigan tied at the shoulders has a 50’s teen feel while the skirt and jacket suit is more 50’s office. We’re not sure which designer made the best choice in hair, we do love the contrast though. Big or sleek, which do you love?   Some more unusual colour choices included clashing brights and unexpected tone combinations. (Above Left) and Mui Mui (Above Right). Pink and orange may not be the most obvious colour combo but at Mui Mui a polka dotted ensemble looked great with stripy socks. Contrasts really do work huh? Matching bold colour was the thing, with a rich green tone and brown panel detailing. The nipped in waist and A-line skirt gives a strong retro vibe which is made modern by the choice in colour and the delicate blue and silver shoes.

Vintage Style- From the Big Screen.

This year has been full of vintage style hits with a film noir feel, no wonder cinematic vintage style is so big right now. The TV series Mad men has been making it bigger and bigger since its release in 2007, partically due to the amazing style of the leading ladies. Our personal fav is Joan Harris, red hair and curvy, a double win! Although Betty Draper is close second, we love her cooling stare... Mad men

The Great Gatsby may not have went down well with all the film critics, but it certainly went down well in terms of vintage style! The flapper look raises it’s head from time to time (or season to season even...) and with the embellishment trend being pretty huge just now, we think the Great Gatsby had something to do with it. Check out this tweet, amaaazing.

Our big love this year however has been Emma Stone in Gangster squad. Wow is pretty much all we can say here. Wow and, what shade is your hair and where can I get it? Yep even more ginger love. Sigh... Also she looks just as good in red as the catwalk models did. We feel a vintage style winning look coming on!

Vintage Style- Vintage Hair Tips.

Overall we think the best (and most transcending) of hairstyles is the bob. The best bit about this look, is that even you long haired beauties can get it. We have a great faux bob tutorial below. Try the look with straight hair for a different vibe altogether. Think mad men VS Great Gatsby. If your more of a 60's beehive girl, one of our favourite looks was seen as part of the parting trend! Extreme partings were reported on the catwalks by IKRUSH in Hair Trend- Their Parting Crowds. Check it out and see if you can tie in the hair trend with your vintage style!

Vintage Style- Beauty Before.

Finally we just had to show you this amazing vintage make-up tutorial from the 40’s. Wow, things may have changed but not too much. We love the way they did it too. Might just have to take some vintage style tips on board and see if we can bag us a James Stewart...  If the idea of vintage tips doesn't float your boat then why not check out our recent beauty post - Beauty Tips A/W13 Goes back to basics? Vintage beauty trends start with the make-up so why not get up to date on this seasons simplest looks.

Vintage Style- The IKRUSH Way.

Although we don’t have any catwalk designer dresses in, we certainly have the next best thing. Dresses that won’t brake the bank but that can give you a strong nudge in the vintage direction. Our red skater dress with mesh panel cutouts is a great modern twist on the scarlet beauty (told you we love Emma Stone!). For a more glitzy option go for our embellished dress. This bodycon style is great for a night out with the girls! Also great for standing out from the crowd in a busy club. For a more sophisticated look, we love our lace skater dress. The lace trim gives vintage style without going over the top and the black band narrows the waist giving you a great shape. Curves in all the right places girls! These dresses are great for getting the retro vibe, without feeling like your in a vintage costume. Wear with some of our amazing heels for a top look to impress. Vintage jewellery can be expensive, which means costume jewellery is an absolute must. Don’t forget to keep an eye on our New In section for all the latest trend items. Have an IKRUSH dress that your wearing with vintage style? Let us show you off to all our followers on Facebook or twitter! Send us your pictures girlies!   By Mhairi O’Neill @IKRUSH_Mhairi
