By Mandy Thomson The queen of cute knit hats, short-shorts and Doc Martens, Ellie Goulding lights up a stage with her undefinable style. She seems to look stylish, well put together and effortlessly cool in every pic we see of her - how does she do it? Seen walking the red carpet at 2013's VMAs she looked sexy, on style and like the quirky musician she is.[/caption] Red carpets, 10 mile runs, studio sessions and of course live gigs are just some of the events the singer-songwriter must get ready for on a day to day basis. And wow does she know how to get ready. Whether it is dressing head to toe in sporty athletic wear to go running, dressing in loungewear to travel between gigs, dressing in something sexy and black for a performance or dressing completely fabulous and formal for a red carpet event, the brit winner scrubs up beautifully every time. Since she won the critics choice award in 2010 and released the fun record Starry Eyed, she has been at the front of the British music scene, and with that, the British fashion scene too. Not to mention she played the most sought after gig of the century - Kate and Wills' wedding reception! We can only imagine how she picked what to wear that night! When she first emerged with her soft yet powerful voice, Ellie's bright almost-silver hair made an impact, and girls everywhere were looking to copy the white blonde hairstyle. We went out and bought silver shampoo almost straight away... Her cutesy dress sense was noted too, and as she has grown up her style has too. On stage she rocks a cool, black, grunge look better than any other female artist. With an athletic body she looks amazing in crop tops, hot pants, lace and mesh pieces. Keeping her look fresh and comfortable, especially on stage, Ellie is usually seen wearing flat shoes, creepers, canvas lace ups, chunky leather boots or something equally cool. Black, quirky, cool.[/caption] Her style has evolved since day one, however she has always had a distinctive look. She always had an eye for the alternative look, and has never looked too 'try-hard' or overly glamourous. These days she has become much more of her own person style wise, and appears to dress more as she chooses as opposed to what is thought of as 'cool' or 'on trend'. Some days she is photographed in joggies and loose fit shirts (dream wardrobe) and others she is dressed in grunge style skinnies and tight tops. Ellie's outfits in her first released video 'Starry Eyed' show even in the early days she knew what her style was going to be and what fashionable looks she wanted to play around with. Our favourite look from this video is definitely the gold dress. It looks like a piece you would see on a catwalk, that would be difficult to wear every day but looks ultra fab in a super cool music video. From pink hair to shaved sides, Ellie Goulding knows how to create a hair trend and run with it. As her name has become bigger in the UK, she has taken more risks - dying her hair lilac, pink, silver and white at different times - showing once again, that she's not afraid to be her own person and carry her own style with confidence. We loved the pink phase, though at one point she had pink eyebrows - we think that may be taking things a bit far... Her Instagram is full of cute snaps of animals, pretty yet low maintenance selfies, her team of friends and her cool outfit choices.She comes across as extremely down to earth and really grateful for the expensive designer pieces she gets to borrow and the high end products she can afford to buy. Just like us really...instead of buying or borrowing the clothes though we just lust after them. Pics like this make us certain we could chill with her backstage and fit right in... loungewear chic[/caption] We could easily slip into some Wildfox loungewear and wait for her to come off the stage.
